Troop 1128 Climbing Campout

The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring Friends School
November 19-20, 2016

DETAILS: Troop 1128 is going on a climbing and camping trip to The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring Friends School in Sandy Spring, Maryland, on November 19-20, 2016.

On Saturday morning, we will drive to The Adventure Park, where we will first spend approximately 30 minutes getting a safety briefing on The Adventure Park and the use of the double-connected, “always-locked-on” safety harness system.  We will then have about 3 hours to climb The Adventure Park’s challenge bridges and ride the zip lines on the Park’s 13 color-coded trails based on difficulty and age limit.  More information about the Park can be found here: https://sandyspringadventurepark.org/sandy-spring-adventure-park/

After climbing on Saturday, the Patrols will engage in a Patrol Competition before we check into the campsites located on the grounds of the Adventure Park.  Patrols will cook dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.

The trip is open to all Scouts.

Average November temperature is 55°F during the day and 38°F at night. Rain is always a possibility.

Layers of warm clothing, a good rain jacket and rain pants (no ponchos), and a sleeping bag rated down to 25°F are required for safety and comfort.

DEADLINE:  Because final numbers must be given to the Adventure Park two weeks in advance, Scouts must sign up (permission slip and $55 fee) by Tuesday, November 1.  LATE SIGN UPS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

SCHEDULE: Scouts should arrive at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 19, no later than 7:30 AM.
We will depart at 8:00 AM (sharp) and will return by 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 20.

MEALS: Eat breakfast before departure and bring a bag lunch for Saturday.  Dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday will be prepared by the Scouts.
The meals will be by Patrol cooking, and Patrols will decide on a menu and purchase food prior to the trip.

COST: There is a $55 fee per participant (Scouts and adults) to cover the climbing tickets, campsite fee, food and transportation.

DRIVERS: Drivers will be needed to transport us round-trip to The Adventure Park. It is approximately 30 miles one way.
Please indicate if you can help with transportation for your son.
