September 17-18, 2016

Troop 1128 is going on a backpacking trip on September 17-18, 2016 to George Washington National Forest near Wardensville, WV.

The trip is open to Scouts who have been to Goshen, or who have experience on three other Troop camping trips.  This trip is not otherwise suitable for new Scouts.

We will be backpacking 12 miles over two days, and carrying all equipment, tents, stoves, food and water. Proper personal equipment is essential, including pack, boots, sleeping bag, and rain gear.

Average September temperature in the mountains is 75°F day and 55°F night. Rain is always a possibility.

Layers of proper clothing, a good rain jacket/rain pants (no ponchos) and a sleeping bag rated to 35°F are required for safety and comfort.

SCHEDULE: Scouts should arrive at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 17, no later than 6:30 AM.
We will depart promptly at 7:00 AM, and will return by 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 18.
Eat breakfast before departure, and bring a bag lunch for Saturday.  Saturday dinner andSunday breakfast and lunch will be planned and prepared by the Scouts.
The meals will be by Patrol cooking and Patrols will decide on a menu and purchase food prior to the trip.

COSTS: There is a $20.00 fee per participant (Scout and adult) to help with cost of food, supplies and transportation.

PARENTS: Drivers may be needed to get us to the trailhead on Saturday, and to pick us upon Sunday. It is 100 miles one-way to the trailhead.  Please indicate if you can help with transportation for your son.

SIGNUP: Permission slip is attached.  Print it out, complete it and sign up at next two Troop meetings. Deadline is Tuesday September 13.
